Read Numbers 23:13-26
“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.” —Numbers 23:19-20
By the time the Israelites made their way from bondage in Egypt to the plains of Moab, the Moabites and Balak, their king, had heard of Israel’s victories and had seen with their own eyes the vast people who stood at their doorsteps. The Moabites feared these Israelites would consume their land. So Balak seeks out the prophet Balaam to come and curse Israel so the Moabites could defeat them.
Balak invites Balaam by declaring “…I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed” (Numbers 22:6). Four times, Balaam goes out to curse Israel, and four times, God causes Balaam to speak blessings in the place of curses. Balak returns home having failed to curse Israel. Instead, he confirmed God’s blessings, in the presence of the very person seeking to curse Israel.
Despite Israel’s rebellion and sin during their Exodus travels, God remained true to His promise to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and even Moses, to bring the Israelites into the land of promise. He had spoken, and as God, He couldn’t lie. He made good on His promise to bless. Even when an enemy tried to curse them, God translated the curse into an even greater blessing.
Whether in your place of business, your neighborhood, your congregation, or even within your family, you face those who seek to curse you, not bless you. No matter what traps an enemy sets, no matter how others seek to destroy you, God remains true to His promises. If the immutable God has determined to bless you, nothing can be done to reverse the blessings He has ordained.
Lesson to Remember: If God has determined to bless you, no one can do anything to change the course and power of His Words!
“…Blessed is he who blesses you, And cursed is he who curses you.”—Numbers 24:9
