Read Exodus 14:1-18
“Then they said to Moses, ‘Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness?…Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.'”—Exodus 14:11-12
When Israelites cried out for deliverance from their bondage and affliction in Egypt, God sent Moses to lead them to the Promised Land. In route, God commanded Moses to encamp between the mountains and the Red Sea. Then God hardened Pharaoh’s heart to chase after the Israelites. With the Egyptians closing in, Israel was trapped with no way of escape. Israel’s cries for deliverance turned into cries of fear, regret and defeat.
It looked as if God had set them up. Indeed He had, but not the way they thought. God orchestrated this chain of events to create an opportunity to showcase His love for Israel. God answered the Israelites’ calls of despair by bringing them across the Red Sea on dry land and destroying the pursuing Egyptian army. Israel’s monumental deliverance served as an everlasting memorial and tangible proof of God’s unfailing love and protection for His chosen people.
There are times God allows us to encounter, even sometimes He places us in “between the mountains and the Red Sea” situations just so we can see the extent of His love for us. Those aren’t moments to cry out in fear and defeat, but to remember “…God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). That sound mind is one that chooses to trust God, even when defeat is all around.
No matter the circumstances, with God, there is always hope beyond what’s seen. When you see no way out, don’t devote time to regretting your circumstances. Instead keep the faith and be encouraged that He who delivered you in the past, always hears your call and always delivers.
When there seems to be no way out, that’s the time to trust God.
Lesson to Remember: Sometimes God allows us to face impossible circumstances in order to show us that the way out of the impossible is possible only through faith in Him.
“…With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”—Mark 10:27
