READ Luke 17:11-19
“So Jesus answered and said, ‘Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?'”—Luke 17:17-18
When ten lepers saw Jesus traveling through their village, they asked Him to have mercy on their condition. Jesus told them to go show themselves to the priests. As they traveled to follow His instructions, they were healed en route. Of the ten, only one, a Samaritan, returned to thank and praise God for his deliverance; and Jesus made note of it. “Thank you” isn’t just a matter of good manners or a common courtesy. It’s appreciated by God.
As I look at the single Samaritan who returned to thank Jesus, and the nine who continued on their way, which am I? Am I the nine who asks for deliverance and accepts it without showing appreciation? Or the one who gives thanks to God for His gift? Am I the nine who seeks God’s intervention in my troubles, and then hurries to get on with my life? Or am I the one who stops in the midst of all the busyness to pay tribute to God?
In a busy world, it’s easy to forget the importance of giving thanks for the things often taken for granted: Life, a degree of health, and awaking to a new day. God’s grace, mercy, love, and faithfulness, even when we’ve not been gracious, merciful, loving or faithful. His provisions, protection, and peace, even in the midst of life’s trials. Family, friends, and loved ones who care for, support and encourage us. The gifts and blessings He has entrusted to our custody. Above all, salvation through Jesus Christ, the presence and empowering of His Holy Spirit, forgiveness for sin, and the assurance of eternal life.
“God, it’s a simple phrase, but thank you for everything You have done, been and will be in our lives. So, we just came back to say THANK YOU! Amen.”
Lesson to Remember: No matter how busy life becomes, always take time to tell God “Thank You”!
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”—1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
