Read: Galatians 6:7-10
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”—Galatians 6:9
For longer than you can remember, you’ve done good. No, you’re not perfect, but you’re the one who does the right thing in your family, community, workplace, even in the congregation. But to be honest, you’re tired. Tired of doing the right thing while others seem to get away with doing anything and everything. You’re tired of laboring, unnoticed and unrewarded. The very people you support and encourage never recognize your efforts or even thank you. Instead, they focus on your shortcomings and how you could’ve done things better. It seems no good deed goes unpunished.
So why bother doing good?!
Despite it all, Apostle Paul encourages you not to tire of doing good. Don’t take a break from being who God called you to be. Don’t let others’ failure to do good influence your good. The object of your labor isn’t the accolades or gratitude of men, but the satisfaction of pleasing the only one who matters, God.
God is a faithful rewarder of all who seek and serve Him. The reward may seem distant and the labor tiresome at times, but eventually you’ll harvest everything you’ve planted. Like all harvests, the fruit of your labor won’t come immediately. It takes time for what you’ve sown to spring forth and ripen. Meanwhile don’t lose hope; if you stay the course, your reward will come!
Hebrews 12:1-3 reminds us to run the race of faith with endurance. The disciple’s journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Some distance runners focus on only one thing—not the finish line, but the next step. Your task is to take the next step, knowing God’s blessings are assured if you stay in the race. So don’t get tired or weary doing good. Don’t focus on others—run your race for the victory you can’t lose.
Lesson to Remember: Never give up in doing good because God never gives up in being good.
“Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”—Psalm 37:1-4
Nat,
Another awesome spiritual reminder, of it being necessary for us, to be our own source inspirational while doing good deeds for the kingdom….
Amen! Whatever we do for the Kingdom is merely our reasonable service. We can only do good because God provides the strength for us to do His will.–Nat
